It’s very easy and you don’t need a lot of materials. In this article we will give you the basic recipe for making your own candles, but the essential oils that you use are purely a matter of taste. You can also use other scented substances – such as dry orange and lemon peel, coffee beans, etc. Be creative and let your imagination run wild! For your homemade scented candles you need the following:

  • Wax granulate for candles or old wax residues
  • wick
  • scissors
  • Casting mold
  • essential oils of your choice
  • Clothespin
  • Wooden sticks or ice cream sticks
  • Pot or bowl for the double boiler
  • Wax paint or candle paint granulate (as desired)

Determine the amount of wax and cut off the butt

Make scented candle how are you

If you are using old wax residue, first remove any wick residue and impurities and finely chop the pieces. You determine the amount of wax depending on the size of the mold you are using. You should multiply the volume of the shape by 1.2. The amount of wax can be precisely determined with a measuring cup. You get about 200 ml of liquid wax from about 240 ml of wax granules or solid wax residues. You should let the wax melt in a water bath at low or medium heat. If you wish, you can also add some candle paint. Meanwhile, you can put the wick in the shape you want. Cut off a long piece that goes all the way to the bottom of the mold. There still has to be enough of it at the top. You can attach the upper end to a clothes peg or chopstick so that it does not sink into the wax later.

Make your own scented candle: let the wax melt

When the wax is completely melted, you can add the fragrance oil. 2 to 14 drops per 100 ml of wax are sufficient. Then stir well with a wooden stick. If you want to add flowers or spices, you can also add them to the liquid wax. Do not put the citrus fruit slices or the whole coffee beans in the mold until you are pouring them.

Pour the wax into the mold

The next step is to take the melted wax off the stove and pour it into the mold. We recommend that you work in layers: start with the next layer when the first is already firm. You can now put the wax back into the water bath to keep it liquid. Put the citrus slices, dried flowers and coffee beans between the individual layers so that they do not sink to the bottom. The result is a wonderful, homemade scented candle that looks really great.

When the candle has already hardened, you can carefully remove it from the mold. If you are using a cardboard or plastic mold, you can simply tear it open or tear it off. Now the aromatic candle is ready to be lit! As mentioned above, you can also wrap the candles nicely and give them to friends or acquaintances.
