Although it looks very difficult to decorate a fault line cake at first glance, most ideas can even be copied by beginners. First, of course, you should bake a cake – whether in a round or square shape is not particularly important. Then it is best to place the cake on a rotating cake stand so that you can work more easily. Firstly, coat the cake evenly with a thin layer of buttercream. This will prevent crumbs from getting into the main layer. After sealing, you can move on to decorating. To do this, by and large, you’ll need the following:

Decorating fault line cake: how to do it?
First, shape the line that will split the cake in half. You can use a knife or spatula for this purpose. Design the line with a thick layer of buttercream or Nutella that will hold any selected decorations. Only if you are using biscuit sprinkles could the cream layer for the fault line be a little thinner so that the sprinkles don’t dip into it. Apply the cream roughly and smooth it out carefully. It is not necessary that the fault line is straight, on the contrary – the more curvy it is, the more interesting the cake looks.
The next step is to decorate the fault line. To do this, simply press the decorations gently into the cream. Now you can “seal” the cake with another layer of buttercream. This could be in a different color so that the line comes into its own. Apply cream above and below the line and don’t worry – you don’t want a perfect border. Spread the cream evenly on the surface of the cake. Finally, smooth the cream well with the spatula and let it set for about half an hour.
